morning star...

"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches; I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." --Rev 22:16

As you may have noticed, it has been a very long time since I have posted anything. I doubt very many of you (if any of you) actually check this very often, but I thought I'd post something...now that my first year of grad. school is complete.

In one of my classes, our professor was giving a lecture on the book of Revelation. As a part of the lecture, he discussed the importance of the "Morning Star" imagery...which I wasn't familiar with at the time, at least in its entirety:

He explained that the morning star is commonly and traditionally known as a star that emerges during the middle of the night. It signifies the point at which the sky turns from getting darker...to getting lighter. Jesus is this Morning Star. He emerges to declare victory over the darkness of the world. Jesus emerges out of the darkness, and thereafter light begins to emerge (although not immediately) throughout all of creation. His kingdom is breaking into the world in tiny ways everywhere. The Morning Star, perhaps more than anything, is a reminder that the morning will come. Especially during times when we feel darkness all around us, and we lose hope for the situations we are in and those around us....we need only be reminded of Him who IS the Morning Star...who reminds us that, although the darkness may be present now....the morning will come...
